WATER BAPTISM

Why should a person be baptized?

  • To follow the example set by Christ.
“At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.” Mark 1:9

  • Jesus commands it.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20

  • It demonstrates that a person is a Christian.
“…many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptized.” Acts 18:8

What is the meaning of Baptism?

  • It illustrates Christ’s death, burial & resurrection.
“Having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.” Colossians 2:12

  • It illustrates new life as a Christian.
“Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4

Why be baptized by immersion?

  • Jesus was baptized that way.
“As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on Him.” Matthew 3:16,

Who should be baptized?

  • Every person who has repented of sin and trusted Christ for salvation.
“Those who accepted His message were baptized.” Acts 2:41

Next Steps:

  1. Write out a personal testimony of your faith in 125 words or less. This should contain a clear profession of faith in Jesus Christ. (This written testimony is not intended to be a “life story.” It is your God story—a brief summary of how you came to trust Christ as Lord.)

  2. Contact the church office to schedule an appointment with a pastor.

  3. Bring a copy of your testimony to your appointment where a pastor will review your testimony with you.
